I couldn't understand some parts of this article : Compact Flourescents, why you should use them at Real World Green, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

Regular CFLs should not be used in recessed lights. I found these bulbs from Bellacor http://www.bellacor.com/detail.cfm?Cat=38&ItemID=100722&partid=Performics-DataFeed&partid=performics

Thanks for informing me of the many values of using CFL. I am replacing all of my regular light bulbs for the CFL ones immediately.

I have heard that CFLs do not work in recessed fixtures, that they overheat and also that they do not direct the light downwards. Is this true?

Hi Catbird, If you buy the CFLs that say "Warm White" on the package, you will not have this problem. Thanks, eric.

After switching to CLFs in our kitchen, the paint color looks dramatically different (and unfortunately institutional). I wish we had switched the bulbs before choosing a paint color. Next time we'll know....

Dear Eric,
I know you said it, but the best way to get people to use CFLs is to emphasize (over & over & over) how much $$$ they will SAVE. That way you'll get not only the greeney wieneys, you'll also get the don't-care-about-greeneys to help. You don't even have to tell them it's good for the environment (except as an afterthought!) Sort of like putting vitamin pills in candy. I hope all of your forthcoming episodes have suggestions as easy to sell as CFLs. NAH FIL
