When you contact the DMA you are actually adding your name to their Mail Preference Service (MPS) Mail Suppression list. You are not removing your name at all. The DMA then send the suppression list, usually once per quarter, to it's 3600 or so members who then remove your name from their mailing lists.

Unfortunately they charge you a buck for the privilege. I'd rather give my money to 41pounds, but if you're on a budget the $1 is probably going to cost less than contracting with 41pounds, and less than buying all those stamps.</description>
